ATLANTA, GA – Put on your dancing shoes once again for the second evening this season that the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre turns into a jazz and big band dance hall! The Cab Calloway Orchestras, dubbed in honor of Cab Calloway ‘s legendary jazz talent, was formed by C. Calloway Brooks, Cab’s grandson, and has now been touring since 1998 all across the country.
“The Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre loves to celebrate legends and legendary performers,” said Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Manager Elizabeth Whitlock. “The Cab Calloway Orchestras celebrates years of Cab Calloway’s heritage that is now being carried on by his talented grandson. Not only can the audience enjoy a second night of dancing at the Amphitheatre this season, but they are also in for a night of unbelievable jazz favorites.”
Cab Calloway began his long career in jazz in 1924 as a high school student performing in local speakeasies and jazz clubs. His talent continued to grow and throughout his life-long career, he played in nationally acclaimed hot spots such as the Sunset Café in Chicago, as well as at the Cotton Club in Harlem. With film appearances with Paramount Pictures, United Artists, MGM, and even animation shorts by Fleischer Studios, as well as countless radio acclaim and chart-topping record sales, Cab Calloway’s music was a household name throughout the last century.
Calloway’s grandson, C. Calloway Brooks first publicly performed together in 1977 and together played at concerts all across the country. Although Cab Calloway passed away in 1994, C. Calloway Brooks was determined to not let his legacy die. In 1996, he began making preparations for the Cab Calloway Orchestras, and he launched the band officially in 1998.
