What's dances do you like & what music do you use?

I'll go first:
A lot of Ballroom compilations are strict tempo and elevator sounding. So you have to really search out the good stuff.

Waltz - I can't stand traditional sad waltz music so I like the latest from Secret Garden. Its really beautiful stuff.
Foxtrot - Anything Jazzy (there are a few great Foxtrots on the new soundtrack for Good Night and Good Luck)
Tango - Gotan Project,
Quickstep - Anything Jazzy
Cha Cha - Can't Decide
Rumba - Can't Decide - Actually I think Casa Musica 19 Afrocubano has a few really nice Rumba's, Cha Cha's and Samba's.. The Jive music on that Cd really stinks though.

Other Dances I dabble in...
Jazz - Old School funk/r&b
Hip Hop - Old School funk/r&b

I could go on. I welcome everyone's input

I'd like to see ballet done to instrumental heavy metal... I mean real high grade metal not cheese. Better yet, I'd like to actually be in such a show. Or, maybe corps/duet choreography done to something hard rockin' like Frankenstein by Edgar Winter Group.

I like Secret Garden for waltz too. For waltz and ballet, I definitely like bowed strings or synth music a lot more than piano or brass. To me, piano and brass is for lindy hop :D

Then there's the hustle... almost any good radio music or instrumental funk will do for the hustle.

Great ideas JDavidb-
Your comment on Hustle and Funk instrumentals made me think of Life on Mars by Dexter Wansel. That song is brilliant. It has a few vocals but, I would consider it mainly an instrumental.

some of my favorite funk ever comes from a game, Interstate 76. It's mid-90's funk by Arion Salazaar, the bassist from 3rd Eye Blind. He used to have it on his web site for download under the band name Bullmark. It can probably only be found in Limewire now.

In the show I was just in, Gaite Parisienne, it was ballet with a lot of really bouncy brass & flute music. Well, most of the show was ballet, but it had a bunch of character choreography mixed in. It sure was fun to do something out of the ordinary, and Kennesaw Dance Troupe usually is out of the ordinary in a very good way. I like the slow tunes for the show a lot too since they were predominantly stringed instruments instead of the usual horns or piano during adagio parts.

I'll have to check that out (interstate76). I found this quote on Google from the music producer:
Jason Slater, Interstate '76 Music Producer, described the music: "we're just trying to recreate what Rick James was doing in the '70s & '80s"
Sounds pretty sweet to me

A recent favorite of mine is a house DJ out of the UK that goes by the name (fake of course) of Joey Negro. He's been around since the early 90's and I'm amazed at how he combines old school and new school funk as well as disco. He released a compilation in march called Joey Negro in the House. Amazing stuff really...

The modern dance company I was in during grad school did a concert to Metallica played by four acoustic cellos. It was a really fun show.
