DIXIE WING COMMEMORATES 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF END OF
WORLD WAR II WITH DANCE CONTEST AND SILENT AUCTION
****************************************************

PEACHTREE CITY, GA – On April 9, 2005 the 1940’s will
come alive at the “3rd Annual Dixie Wing of the
Commemorative Air Force (CAF) World War II Swing
Dinner Dance”. The dance will be held at the
Historical Airpower Facility, Falcon Field and will
feature a live band, silent auction and dance
competition with cash prizes. Music will be provided
by The Peachtree Jazz Edition and the dance
competition will be judged by a panel led by local
dance instructor Rachel Ferguson. The festivities
begin with free swing dance lessons at 6pm.

World War II Swing Dinner Dance guests will hear the
big band sounds of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and
Benny Goodman while enjoying a buffet dinner. Other
activities include door prizes, a “best 1940’s
costume” contest, dance lessons and souvenir photos.
Adding to the WWII atmosphere will be vintage
aircraft, vehicles and re-enactors dressed in period
clothing. The Dixie Wing CAF is a non-profit
education organization that relies on donations and
fundraisers to preserve WWII aircraft and teach WWII
history.

The 2005 WWII Swing Dinner Dance and silent auction
will benefit “The Lady in Blue” and “Education Through
Living History” (ETLH). “The Lady in Blue” is one of
only three Dauntless dive bombers flying in the United
States today” said Jake Tryon, Dixie Wing wing leader,
“it was restored by the Dixie Wing using blueprints
provided by the Smithsonian Institute, but we must now
raise $50,000 to replace the engine for the aircraft.
The World War II Swing Dance is very important to our
fundraising effort” ETLH is a World War II history
program made available by Dixie Wing volunteers to
schools and youth groups free of charge.

Advance tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple
or $40 per person after April 4th. Reserved tables
are also available for $300. Dance contest entry fee
is $20 per couple. For more information about the
“3rd Annual Dixie Wing CAF WWII Swing Dinner Dance”
